What is SlutWalk?

SlutWalk is a transnational movement calling for an end to r*pe culture, including victim blaming and slut shaming of sexual assault victims.

The protest takes place in the form of a march, where some dress in clothes considered to be “slutty”. The rallies and marches began on April 3, 2011, in Canada, after a Police officer suggested that "women should avoid dressing like sluts" as a precaution against sexual assault. Subsequent rallies have occurred globally.

Oakland’s 2022 SlutWalk is PRO QUEER, TRANS, GNC, FAT, BIPOC, + S*X WORK! This event is hosted by ThiccTease (a strip performance troupe for fat bodies) and BAWS (s*x worker mutual aid org).

Join us in your best #slutwalk look on Saturday, April 30th at 2p at the Pavilion on Lake Merritt. Look for red umbrellas. Please bring signs and bullhorns to help us be heard and seen. Accessibility Info: The Lake Merrit Pavilion and trail is navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or stroller users. There are benches along the route for resting.
